Andres Labi

- Home Country: Estonia -

Andres Labi is an interior designer from Estonia. After studying art for a short time, he decided to follow his passion for design and graduated  from the Estonian Academy of Arts in 2000 as an interior architect.

Andres is a founder and a partner of the interior design studio Ruumilabor (est. 2004, www.ruumilabor.ee). The studio is known in Estonia for its high quality interior design and playful approach to furniture and lighting. He is a long-term member of association of the Estonian interior architects and has been honoured with a number of design awards. He has supervised design students and has conducted several design workshops. Andres has a conservation and restoration licence for architectural heritage.

Andres believes in lifelong learning. In 2013 he decided to take his decade long fascination with product design to a new level and started his master studies at Tallinn University of Technology – at Design & Engineering, a curriculum integrating art, design and science. Meanwhile, a student exchange program took him to Brussels, to study Urban Architecture at LUCA.

Andres has been engaged in various art projects and exhibitions.

Most of his works can be characterized as eloquently modern combined with a touch of history and often filled with subtle playfulness. He believes in synergy and many of his projects have been created as a teamwork. One of the greatest – Estonian Pavilion for EXPO 2010, Shanghai – was internationally recognized.

When Andres’s wife started her diplomatic career in Brussels, Andres saw a great opportunity to broaden his field of activity and moved to live in Belgium. Today, driven by one of his unexpectedly popular design products – Tie&Apron (www.tieapron.com) – Andres is focused on export development. However, his restless artistic spirit has not stopped looking for new creative challenges.
